The Midway Through Farm Share Week!

Aug 9, 2021 | Box Contents

Can you believe we are 11 weeks into the 2021 Farm Share season? This summer has been racing by at lightning speed. Have you felt it too? At least we still have most of August left and school is starting about a week late this year. Hopefully we can hold on to summer as long as possible this year! Below are some photos of some of the up-and-comers growing in the fields.

I cracked open the first watermelon over the season this weekend, and gosh I have missed it! I am happy to be sending one with your half and whole shares this week. We don’t have the amazing abundance we had last year due to a relentless combination of late frost/weeds and pests stealing watermelons, but we will at least have a couple weeks to savour this summertime treat. If your melon is dark green on the outside, you have a sugar baby watermelon, which is red on the inside. If you have a light green stripey watermelon then it is a yellow doll melon, which you guessed it- it yellow inside! There are also cantaloupe and honeydew melons, but most of you will receive a watermelon.

This week the half shares get broccoli. Everyone gets sweet little grape tomatoes, and the other varieties of tomatoes are looking good and just starting to ripen (like the cherry tomatoes).

So far this week I find myself baking in this heat and short on time after all the harvesting, so let’s dive right in to what’s in your boxes this week.

2-3 medium size tomatos
3 cloves of fresh garlic
Peel and chop zucchini into small pieces salt well with pink or celtic sea salt and let sit for 20 min

Mince garlic
In a medium sized pan and Over medium heat add 2 tbs of olive or avocado oil add zucchini and liquid from bowl (do not wash salt off) cook for about 20- 30 min or until zuchini is soft and mushy.
Remove zucchini from pan (do not wash) add in 2 TBS of grass fed butter and garlic cook garlic for about 3-5 min or until the smell develops add in tomatoes, cook for 5 min, add back in the zucchini, stir and continue cooking for 8-10 min while covered
