Frost Watch (Sept 27-Oct1)

Sep 26, 2022 | Nutrition Information, Recipes

Fall is officially here! The weather seems to know it too, as temperatures have suddenly dipped. It was go time Thursday, harvesting sensitive crops like tomatoes and covering the peppers and eggplants, which seem to be finally getting going. Even my mom came to bring in the abundant tomato harvest. Despite the warnings, only the tiniest kiss of frost seems to have touched the plants, which means the beans, tomatoes and peppers live on until the next time the night temperature goes down to the low single digits. Did you know frost is more likely to hit on a clear night? The clouds, as well as fabrics can offer some protection to vulnerable plants.

Getting ready for frost

Lettuce is still going strong

Roma season is almost done

The roma tomato crop is just about out the door. 4 bushels went out today to an Italian family making their sauce for the year. Am I the only one who wants to be Italian for the day just to take part in this awesome tradition?! U have a couple half bushels left if anyone wants to do a small batch before the season is officially over here.

Creamy Classic coleslaw- a perfect side.

The caraflex cabbage many of you are receiving this week is just like a softer, sweeter green cabbage with an adorable little cone shaped head. This is the perfect cabbage for coleslaw. I used this classic recipe: Classic Coleslaw Recipe (Video) – Lauren’s Latest (laurenslatest.com) . The only difference is I used apple cider vinegar. It’s a great healthy food and tastes great- so why not. Definitely there is no need to buy coleslaw dressing. You can make it easily with the recipe above and control the sugar.
