Hello from the farm!

Precious baby birds spotted in the greenhouse. We love sharing this land with all the creatures, big and small.

A lot of farming can be summed up in active waiting. No, we’re seldom literally doing nothing, but are always waiting on something- waiting for a crop to grow, waiting for a vehicle to go harvest, waiting for the rain to start- or stop! This week we were blessed with quite a bit of rain, and the beans I have been waiting on are ready! I had been waiting on the time to spray our apple trees with kaolin clay, and I finally found that (for 1 orchard of 2). The grape tomatoes are ripening rapidly and and broccoli is still going strong.

Fittingly Doug and I celebrated our anniversary this week. It’s been 14 years and just like we patiently tend the fields, we have been patiently tending our marriage and family. Nothing has seemed to come quickly and easily (we have a century home that’s been one project after another…and we are far from done). B have been building the farm greenhouse by greenhouse, customer by customer, and crop by crop. Guiding our children through each stage and learning how to communicate and work as a team- it’s all been a slow, patient work, but also a beautiful one. I truly believe the things we wait for, and invest in heavily, end up being some of the most meaningful things of all. What are you patiently plodding toward today? I hope you find what matters and don’t give up.

This is what trucks are made for, no?
