Here we are!
Week one is here, and it’s been a wild one already. From ghastly hot temperatures to frost just about overnight, our little seedlings that had just been planted took a beating. Praying that those little seedlings recover- plants like watermelon and tomatoes does tolerate frost well at all!
The snow peas surprised us a little early this week, as well as the greenhouse cucumbers that are just beginning. Of course we have asparagus, which is one of the best darned crops of spring.
The new farm share crew is hard at work this week harvesting, bunching, packing, and driving your produce to you. The new hens are happily settled and laying like champs! It must be because they are so happy with their new living arrangements. Like last year, we have them in chicken tractors (a mobile outdoor coop we can move around to fresh pastures), but now we have added an electric fence to let the girls out each day to find new grass and bugs to peck away at. It’s pretty delightful to watch them run and fly when I release them to their foraging at the beginning of the day. Rounding them up can be a challenge, but now that they are in a routine and I come with fresh organic food, they are being much more cooperative.
Here is your produce list for this week. I will update with some photos when they are ready. For now we are hard at work putting these beautiful baskets together with love!

Roasted Asparagus and Radish from veggiedesserts.com
This combines my favourite way to enjoy asparagus (roasted) and tempers some of the spicy flavour of radish in one pretty spring dish. Bonus points- it’s simple and easy. Hope you enjoy this easy recipe!
Lemon Garlic Sauteed Baby bokchoy from inspiredtaste.net.
Baby bokchoy and the large bokchoy with the white stalks can be cooked quite similarly. Feel free to use either in this recipe. For the large bokchoy, I often separate the stems from the green parts and get them sauteeing in the pan first, as they take longer to cook. Bok choy is also lovely in noodle soups, and the greens can go in anything from stir fries to pastas, and for baby bokchoy, it also makes a great salad. Here’s the recipe for simple lemon garlic sauteed baby bokchoy.
